Yamaha has filed patents for an all-electric motocross bike, with leaked images offering a first glimpse. Following the development of the TY-E trials e-bike, which is currently competing professionally, Yamaha is gearing up to introduce the new (potentially named YZ-E) model to the racing scene.
During testing of the TY-E, Yamaha discovered that incorporating a flywheel and a traditional clutch significantly improved performance in slow-speed maneuvers and provided rapid acceleration during race starts. For the new dirt bike, Yamaha has equipped it with a torsion damper and gearbox, tailored for the distinct demands of off-road racing.
The addition enhances throttle response, crucial for the varying acceleration needed in dirt racing, ensuring smooth power delivery. While specifics of the battery pack remain undisclosed, the focus on the propulsion system is evident. Yamaha is expected to showcase a prototype in the coming months.
